Uganda is poised to become the new home for Fountain of Peace International, a charity organization dedicated to improving the lives of vulnerable children in the Kabarole Sub-region. Development partners and local leaders have praised the Ugandan government for creating an environment that has enabled such transformative initiatives to thrive. This expansion marks a new chapter for the organization as it looks to enhance its operations in the country, with a focus on long-term, sustainable community development.
Fountain of Peace International’s Mission in Uganda
Fountain of Peace, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting vulnerable children and mothers, is taking bold steps to achieve key global development goals, including better health services, clean water access, improved sanitation, and food security. The organization has already made significant strides in the Kabarole Sub-region, providing much-needed support to orphans and vulnerable children, many of whom have lost their parents due to various challenges.
The charity’s chairperson, Suzan Dodd, shared her excitement during the signing of a new governance framework that will guide Fountain of Peace International’s operations in Uganda. She expressed that the programs the organization runs are vital for Uganda’s long-term development, aligning directly with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). “This signing ceremony is a milestone that lays the foundation for a bright future for Fountain of Peace,” Dodd remarked. “The vision of this institution is remarkable as it not only mobilizes resources but also ensures that its programs are strategically implemented and effectively delivered.”
Focusing on Child and Maternal Health
Patrick Ruharuza, the founder of Fountain of Peace, emphasized that the organization’s work is driven by the urgency of achieving key global goals such as improving maternal health, child survival, and access to essential services. One of the signature programs, Mothers Matter in Childbirth, has made substantial strides in supporting mothers across Uganda. Ruharuza explained that many of the children under the charity’s care have tragically lost their mothers, which inspired the creation of this program to support women in the community with access to timely antenatal healthcare.
“Our initiative provides mothers with direct access to health centers through a boda boda referral system, where transporters are paid directly by the organization. This intervention has been crucial in saving lives,” Ruharuza said. Over the past year, nearly 1,000 mothers have benefited from this system, which has helped ensure that no maternal deaths were recorded due to delays in transportation or healthcare access. Ruharuza proudly stated that the program aligns with the organization’s broader mission of ensuring the survival of mothers during childbirth and empowering them to care for their children.
Addressing Water, Sanitation, and Education Needs
In addition to providing healthcare support, Fountain of Peace is deeply invested in the education of vulnerable children. The organization goes beyond just providing basic care, ensuring that children receive a complete education up to the highest level. The organization also focuses on addressing fundamental community needs, including water and sanitation, through various projects in Kyenjojo.
“We’re committed to ensuring that every child has the opportunity to thrive in a peaceful and nurturing environment, which is why education, clean water, and proper sanitation are key priorities for us,” Ruharuza added. These community projects, which focus on building infrastructure, improving water access, and ensuring proper sanitation, are integral to the charity’s approach to sustainable development in Uganda.
The New Governance Framework and Future of Fountain of Peace International
The new governance framework that was signed marks a significant development for Fountain of Peace International. The organization will now operate fully within Uganda, independent of its UK and New Zealand-based operations. This shift reflects the confidence the Ugandan government and international partners have in the organization’s ability to scale its operations and expand its impact across the country.
Victor Kerunga, the Board Chairman of Fountain of Peace International, expressed the board’s strong commitment to the future of the organization in Uganda. “We take this development very seriously. This new governance structure strengthens our corporate governance and sets us up for long-term success,” Kerunga said. “We are not only focused on expanding our operations but also on ensuring that our interventions continue to have a lasting impact on the communities we serve.”
Kerunga’s remarks underscore the importance of strong governance in ensuring that Fountain of Peace can sustain its operations and meet the evolving needs of Ugandans. The shift to full operations within Uganda also opens the door for future collaborations with local and international partners, ensuring that the organization can mobilize resources effectively for continued success.
The Role of Local Partnerships and Future Growth
The expansion of Fountain of Peace International in Uganda is a testament to the power of local and international partnerships in driving sustainable change. Through collaborations with government agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and local communities, Fountain of Peace is poised to continue its transformative work, providing crucial services to vulnerable populations.
As the organization grows, its focus will remain on creating lasting solutions to some of the most pressing issues facing Uganda, including healthcare, education, water, and sanitation. The leadership of Fountain of Peace International is dedicated to ensuring that the next generation of Ugandans has the opportunity to thrive in a peaceful and prosperous environment.
In the coming months, Fountain of Peace plans to roll out additional programs designed to address the evolving needs of Uganda’s communities, with a particular focus on children, mothers, and rural populations. The organization’s growth is a testament to the power of collaboration, the dedication of its leadership, and the unwavering support of its partners and donors.
A Vision for a Better Uganda
With its new governance framework in place, Fountain of Peace International is primed to expand its impact across Uganda. The organization’s work not only aligns with Uganda’s development goals but also positions the country as a leader in creating sustainable, community-driven solutions to poverty and social inequality.
The future of Fountain of Peace International in Uganda looks bright as it continues to grow, with its focus on education, health, and sustainable development ensuring that the children and communities it serves will have the opportunity to thrive in a better, more peaceful Uganda.
