Electoral Timeline for Kawempe North
The Kawempe North parliamentary seat fell vacant following the death of Muhammad Ssegirinya on January 9, 2025, after weeks of hospitalisation.
The Electoral Commission (EC) has scheduled the by-election for March 13, 2025. During a stakeholders’ meeting in Kawempe, EC Chairperson Simon Byabakama outlined the election timeline:
- Candidate nominations: February 26-27.
- Campaign period: February 28-March 11.
- Polling date: March 13, 2025.
Byabakama highlighted the importance of stakeholder collaboration, urging adherence to electoral laws and guidelines throughout the process.
“The conduct of elections involves many stakeholders. Adherence to the electoral laws and guidelines by all stakeholders during the entire electoral process is therefore very crucial,” Byabakama said.
Kazo-Angola Ward By-Election
The Kazo-Angola LC3 councillor position became vacant after the death of Yusuf Yakubu Kiggundu in 2022. Kiggundu tragically passed away in a road accident while campaigning for an NUP candidate in Omoro District.
