The National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) fee in Uganda must be paid using a Payment Reference Number (PRN) generated through the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) system. Without a PRN, you cannot complete the payment process. Therefore, it is important to understand exactly how to generate it. This guide will walk you through the process step by step.
Prerequisites:
Before starting, ensure you have:
- A phone, tablet, or computer connected to the internet.
- A web browser such as Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.
Once these are ready, you can proceed to the URA portal.
Step 1: Open the URA Website
First, launch your preferred web browser. Then, in the search bar, type https://ura.go.ug and press Enter. This will take you directly to the official Uganda Revenue Authority website.
Step 2: Go to the Payments Section
From the homepage, click on “Make a Payment”. This link will guide you to the URA payment services section, where all payment processes begin.
Step 3: Register a New Payment
When the payments page opens, look for and click “Click here to Register Payment”. This option is necessary because it allows you to create a unique PRN for your NCHE payment.
Step 4: Enter Your Details
At this stage, a payment registration form will appear. Carefully fill in your personal details, making sure all the information is accurate. Under Payment Type, select “Other NTR” (Non-Tax Revenue). This is important because NCHE fees fall under this category.
Step 5: Accept and Register
After entering your details, click “Accept and Register”. This step confirms that you have reviewed the information and are ready to generate your PRN.
Step 6: Confirm and Generate PRN
Next, click “OK” when prompted. The system will immediately generate your Payment Reference Number (PRN). At this point, you can copy the PRN directly from the form for use in the payment stage.
Step 7: Save the PRN Slip
Finally, download the payment registration slip and save it on your device. You can also print it for your records. This slip contains both the PRN and your payment details, which you will need when paying via bank, mobile money, or online banking.
Generating an NCHE payment reference number is simple when you follow the correct steps on the URA portal. Moreover, keeping your PRN and slip safe ensures a smooth payment process and helps you meet your NCHE fee requirement without delays.
