President Museveni, Qatari Delegation Discuss Strategic Investment in Uganda
Kampala, Uganda – President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has hosted a high-level meeting with Qatar’s Khalid bin Mohammad Al Attiyah, a seasoned investor and former Deputy Prime Minister, to explore mutually beneficial investment opportunities across key sectors in Uganda.
The meeting took place on Saturday, May 11, at State Lodge Nakasero, and focused on areas such as mining, agriculture, petroleum infrastructure, and green energy technologies.
Investment in Value Addition and Clean Energy
President Museveni emphasized the importance of adding value to Uganda’s natural resources, particularly in agriculture and minerals. He proposed joint ventures in coffee and fruit processing, aimed at increasing Uganda’s export value and competitiveness in global markets.
Museveni also presented investment prospects in the lithium sector, a critical resource for the global energy transition. He invited Qatari investors to explore local manufacturing of electric vehicle batteries, pointing to Uganda’s rich raw material base.
“Uganda has the resources. With the right partnerships, we can create an industrial base that supports both regional and international supply chains,” said the President.
Qatar’s Interest in Expanding Economic Ties
Mr. Khalid expressed strong interest in the proposed collaborations and reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to deepening bilateral investment cooperation.
The discussion marks a strategic step forward in enhancing Uganda–Qatar economic ties, particularly in infrastructure modernization, sustainable development, and industrialization.
