Widow Reveals Major John Kazoora Battled Diabetes for 22 Years

Rushenyi County MP Naome Kabasharira has revealed that her late husband, Major John Kazoora, lived with diabetes for over two decades before his passing on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025. Speaking at his requiem mass at All Saints Cathedral Nakasero, Kabasharira shared emotional memories and his long medical journey.

Kazoora was first diagnosed with diabetes in 2003, shortly after being re-elected to Parliament. His condition required specialized care in Nairobi after Mulago Hospital referred him due to complications. In 2021, he endured a severe relapse that left him in ICU for 17 days.

On Easter Sunday, Kabasharira, who was in Rushenyi, received a morning call from Kazoora saying he felt fine. But by 5 PM, she got a distress call. Despite an ambulance being dispatched, Kazoora died before medical help arrived.

A Life of Service and Sacrifice

A former bush war veteran and vocal opposition politician, Kazoora served in Uganda’s Sixth Parliament and later joined the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC). He authored “Betrayed by My Leader”, criticizing President Yoweri Museveni — yet, Kabasharira disclosed that Museveni often covered her husband’s medical bills, showing that political rivalry didn’t overshadow mutual respect.

Political Unity at Home

Despite being members of rival parties — Kabasharira in NRM and Kazoora in FDC — the couple maintained a strong personal bond. “We lived a life that demystified political hostility,” she said, crediting their understanding of friendship and family above partisan lines
