Lady Cranes Secure Spot in 2025 Rugby Africa Women’s Cup After Dominant Tournament in Côte d’Ivoire
Uganda’s women’s national rugby team, the Lady Cranes, have officially booked their place in the 2025 Rugby Africa Women’s Cup, following an extraordinary unbeaten run in the just-concluded Division One tournament held in Côte d’Ivoire.
Capping off the tournament with an emphatic 63-7 win over Zimbabwe, the Lady Cranes showcased why they’re fast becoming a major force in African women’s rugby. Their performance against Zimbabwe highlighted their seamless coordination, tactical discipline, and sheer physical dominance.
Uganda also registered commanding victories over Tunisia and host nation Côte d’Ivoire, asserting their strength in a tightly-contested round-robin format. Their dominance was especially evident in the final game, where Uganda’s forwards laid a formidable foundation, allowing the backs to deliver try after try.
Earlier on the final day, Tunisia ended their campaign on a high note with a 34-0 win over Côte d’Ivoire, but it was Uganda’s unmatched consistency and superior point differential that secured them the top spot.
With the qualification secured, Uganda now joins rugby powerhouses South Africa, Kenya, and Madagascar in the premier division of the 2025 Rugby Africa Women’s Cup.
This latest achievement adds to Uganda’s growing rugby reputation in both the 15s and 7s formats, reaffirming the Lady Cranes as a national pride and a team to watch on the continental stage.
