Calvin Echodu Brings Vision and Grassroots Focus to NRM Eastern CEC Race

Ngora, Uganda – May 14, 2025
With a calm demeanor and a deep record in community development, Calvin David Echodu has stepped forward as a fresh contender in the race for NRM’s National Vice Chairperson for Eastern Uganda, a seat held by Captain Mike Mukula for 15 years.

A native of Soroti, Echodu has built a strong reputation through his leadership at Pilgrim Uganda, a non-profit dedicated to issues like trauma healing, public health, education, and malaria control. His response during the 2007 Teso floods, where he delivered aid faster than the government, earned him praise from both locals and national leaders, including the president.

“I didn’t enter public service for politics,” Echodu said. “I was called to serve—to uplift those who need it most.”

Now 52, he says his candidacy is not driven by ambition but by a desire to re-energize the NRM at the grassroots level, restore its local trust, and shape policy with input from rural communities.

Though some label him a newcomer to the political arena, Echodu reminds critics that he’s been a committed NRM member since 2001 and has supported structural party work since 2006. His campaign slogan, “Bringing New Energy to the Party,” reflects a clear vision: reviving party engagement, transparency, and inclusive development.

“We need leaders who listen—not just speak,” he noted. “If the party leadership becomes disconnected, so do its roots.”

Beyond politics, Echodu’s impact includes founding Soroti Municipal Secondary School, where he awarded bursaries to over half the student body, and organizing savings groups that boosted local village economies. His style of leadership, he says, is people-first, transparent, and purpose-driven.

He argues that NRM remains strong at the grassroots, but its visibility and engagement have weakened—creating space for opposition movements like NUP. His goal is to bridge the gap and provide real-time leadership that reflects community needs.

A father, Christian, and avid golfer, Echodu says his time in nature keeps him grounded. He champions ideological clarity but insists on modern relevance, asserting, “We should prioritize productivity over tenure.”

As the NRM prepares for internal elections, Echodu’s bid represents more than a challenge for a title—it’s a call for a return to servant leadership.

“If you’re tired of rhetoric and ready for results, I’m here,” he said. “This campaign is about listening, working, and building—together.”

Whether the party is ready for this kind of grounded, practical leadership remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: Calvin Echodu is not just campaigning—he’s setting a tone for the NRM’s future in the East.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PW7lnMBaYfo
