Ugandan Creative Icon Saad Byakuleka Killed in Entebbe Motorcycle Collision
Entebbe, Uganda – Uganda’s vibrant creative community is mourning the untimely death of acclaimed photographer Saad Byakuleka, who tragically lost his life in a fatal motorcycle crash on Thursday evening, April 18, 2025.
The accident occurred at Bugonga Junction, close to the Air Base in Entebbe. According to a confirmation by Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Spokesperson for the Kampala Metropolitan Police, two motorcycles were involved in a devastating collision. “Both riders were pronounced dead at the scene,” he stated in a post on X (formerly Twitter), noting that their bodies were transported to Mulago City Mortuary for further examination.
Byakuleka, celebrated for his innovative contributions to Uganda’s entertainment and visual storytelling sectors, was one of the victims who perished instantly. His sudden death has sent shockwaves across social media, with fellow artists, fans, and media figures sharing heartfelt tributes to honor his legacy.
Rising Statistics of Motorcycle Fatalities
This tragedy highlights the growing concern over motorcycle-related deaths in Uganda. According to the 2024 Uganda Police Annual Crime Report, motorcyclists accounted for 1,720 deaths, representing 33% of total road fatalities. When combined with passenger deaths, that figure rises to 2,334, or 47% of all traffic deaths in the country.
Authorities attribute the bulk of these fatalities to reckless riding, speeding, and deteriorating road infrastructure. Investigations are currently underway to determine the exact cause of the Bugonga Junction crash.

Family members and close friends are expected to announce funeral plans for Saad Byakuleka in the coming days.
