Police in Soroti have arrested Suzan Vivian Okedi, wife of the Jozan Nursery and Primary School director, in connection with the suspected ritual murder of 5-year-old Joan Faith Apio. Authorities also detained her brother at the school premises, increasing the number of suspects in custody to five. Following the arrests, police sealed off the school, believing key evidence could be found within the premises.

Authorities Pledge Justice for the Victim

East Kyoga Regional Police Commander Damalie Nachuha confirmed the arrests and assured the public that law enforcement and forensic experts are working tirelessly to uncover the truth. She urged residents to remain calm as the investigation progresses.

Details of the Horrific Crime

Apio, a twin, had been in the boarding section of the school for only three days before her brutal killing. Her throat was cut out, and her body was found locked inside a staff pit latrine. The school matron, Ms. Osula Adong, made the shocking discovery and described the scene as deeply disturbing. The gruesome nature of the crime has sparked outrage across Soroti and beyond, with parents and community members demanding swift justice.

Concerns Over Child Safety in Boarding Schools

This tragic incident has renewed concerns about the safety of children in boarding schools. Many parents have called for stricter security measures and tighter regulations to protect young learners. Some parents have even demanded the permanent closure of Jozan Nursery and Primary School, arguing that authorities must do more to prevent such horrific crimes.

Rising Cases of Ritual Sacrifice in Uganda

The murder has also ignited a national debate on the increasing cases of ritual sacrifices in Uganda. Human rights activists are calling on the government to enforce harsher penalties for individuals involved in such heinous crimes. Meanwhile, police remain determined to identify the motive behind Apio’s killing and bring all perpetrators to justice.

As the case unfolds, the nation watches closely, hoping for swift and decisive action against those responsible.
